The Avon Foundation for women donated more than $6.2 million in 10 grants to Chicagoland organizations that fight breast cancer at the 2012 Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Chicago. Swedish Covenant Hospital was one of those organizations. The $250,000 grant given to Swedish Covenant Hospital will support the expansion of a patient navigation program and a new mammography information system. This will help cover the cost of new equipment and the new program, and help with the overall financial health of the hospital.
The Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation awarded Swedish Covenant Hospital with a two-year $150,000 grant to support the hiring of a Breast Health Navigator, community-based breast health education and biopsies for low-income, uninsured and underinsured women. This is the first year that the Chicagoland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen has awarded 2-year community grants and only three were to be awarded.
