Swedish Covenant Hospital was recently ranked as the safest hospital in Chicago and the ninth safest hospital in the state by Consumer Reports. SCH scored 60 out of a possible 100 points. The points were awarded based on nation-wide data and patient experiences.
Hospitals were evaluated in nine different categories — avoiding bloodstream infections, avoiding surgical-site infections, avoiding readmissions, communication about hospital discharge, communication about drug information, appropriate use of abdominal screening, appropriate use of chest scanning, avoiding serious complications, and avoiding mortality.
Swedish Covenant Hospital received positive ratings in six out of the nine categories.
