Esther Serrano, RN (MSO OB/Midwifery) contributes to The science of feeling better by helping patients participate in their health care decision.
“We take time to talk, listen and educate. This allows patients to participate in their health care decisions which make them more satisfied with their health care experience.”
Heather Bolser, RN, BSN (Ambulatory Care Center), contributes to The science of feeling better by using the latest technology, as well as compassion, in her care for breast cancer patients.
“I love my job because I get to assist women in utilizing the latest, evidence-based technology in their fight against breast cancer,” Bolser said.
Sherri Ruerup, CNM, Director of Midwifery, contributes to The science of feeling better by empowering women to be their own health advocates..
“As a midwife I encourage women to participate in decisions regarding their health care," Ruerup said. "Research shows patients who are empowered to make informed choices are highly satisfied, which is part of The science of feeling better.”
Sun B. Lee,RN (Bed Management) contributes to The science of feeling better by collaborating with many other departments to make each patient as comfortable as possible in their rooms and throughout the hospital — which helps them feel better.
“It is so important that our patients are settled in their room and comfortable upon arrival," Lee said. "The process we implement to achieve this goal is a science in itself. It involves all department in Swedish Covenant Hospital working together.”
Eileen Tuttley (Patient Testing) contributes to The science of feeling better by greeting patients with a warm smile and putting them at ease by answering their questions about upcoming exams and tests.
Michelle Dusenbery, RNC, contributes to The science of feeling better by caring for sick neonates, watching them get better and teaching their families how to care for them.
"Ever since I can remember, I've always wanted to become a nurse, work in a hospital and care for babies. So, that’s what I did. I went to nursing school and graduated 22 years ago. Little did I know when I started that I wasn't caring for just babies, but their families as well.
Parents and families need to be well informed of their plan of care, technical support and progress. This helps them feel more secure in allowing us to care for their precious babies. The information and teaching we give isn't just for their hospital stay, but for when they go home as well.
Also, when babies are ill, they can't tell us what is wrong. As neonatal nurses, we have to have special skills to pick on up their signs and symptoms of sickness. There is a science to it."
Feroze Kahn (Linen Services) contributes to The science of feeling better.
“I work in Linen Services and our patients’ comfort is very important to me and my department. I don’t necessarily see our patients face to face, however, it is my responsibility to deliver the linens which contributes to patient care and The science of feeling better at Swedish Covenant Hospital.”
