SCH continues planning for California Medical Pavilion
This graphic shows what SCH's California Medical Pavilion could look like in 2012 from the perspective of someone facing north on California Avenue.
With the approval of both the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board and the Swedish Covenant Hospital Board of Directors, SCH will move forward with plans to build the California Medical Pavilion, a combined medical office building, ambulatory surgery center and parking structure at the northeast corner of Foster and California avenues.
These approvals are the first of many checkpoints SCH must pass to begin building. The hospital now awaits zoning approval from the City of Chicago in September. If approved, construction will begin this fall and is expected to be complete in early 2012.
The completed California Medical Pavilion will allow SCH to serve the growing need for outpatient surgical and medical office space as the hospital continues to expand to meet the needs of the community.
“Providing these services is yet another representation of SCH’s growing medical expertise and is an important part of our efforts to excel as the leading independent hospital in Chicago,” said CEO Mark Newton.
The construction of the building will uphold “green” standards and SCH will strive for LEED Silver Certification, which reflects responsible green practices and building.
The first floor of the new California Medical Pavilion will provide a retail space; it is not yet known what might be housed there. Also, the building will provide 266 parking spaces to accommodate the patients receiving services there.
Look for more updates in September.
