Congratulations to SCH's newly graduated residents and award winners
CEO Mark Newton (right) congratulates Nikolaos Kanellopoulos, M.D. and Cheerag Patel, D.O. (first-year residents) on receiving the SCH Resident of the Year award. This award was granted at a Medical Education graduation ceremony held June 11.
Members of Dr. Garry Melnick's family, as well as Dr. Walten Baba, awarded graduating resident Konstantin Kociasvili with the Garry Melnick Family Medicine Resident of the Year award.
Mary Grace Cicero (Graduate Medical Education), Dr. Michael Feinzimer and Dr. Nicholas Parise award Jennifer Cheng with her diploma.
On June 11, twelve medical residents graduated from SCH’s Medical Education program after completing their studies in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and Traditional Year residencies. This marks the 33rd graduating class for the Family Medicine Program, the third graduating class for the Internal Medicine Program and the first graduating class of the Traditional Program.
All four of this year’s graduating internal medicine residents will go on to fellowships in critical care, gastroenterology, geriatrics and endocrinology.
At the graduation ceremony, hospital CEO Mark Newton, CFO Gary Krugel, Dr. Michael Feinzimer, Dr. Nicholas Parise, Dr. Walten Baba and Mary Grace Cicero (Graduate Medical Education) presented the diplomas and awards for honored attendees. .
This was also the first year that the Garry D. Melnick Family Medicine Resident of the Year award was bestowed upon a medical resident. This award honors a Family Medicine resident who embodies the spirit of Dr. Melnick, a dedicated SCH physician, hospital board member and graduate of the SCH Medical Residency program, who passed away in January 2010. The award was presented by Dr. Melnick’s wife Cynthia and other members of their family.
